News21 is a national investigative reporting initiative that I was selected for after being nominated by the Reynolds School of Journalism, which is where I major in journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno.
I worked with 26 other student journalists from across the country to produce America’s Weed Rush – an investigation on the legalization and regulation of marijuana across the United States. From January to the end of April we all worked from where we were based, and then in May we met in Phoenix to work out of the Cronkite School of Journalism’s newsroom at Arizona State University until July 31.
The fellowship is led by Jacqueline Petchel, a Pulitzer Prize winner and former reporter/editor for The Miami Herald, and Leonard Downie Jr., former editor of The Washington Post. We also worked under Christina Leonard, former editor of The Arizona Republic, and Brandon Quester, founder and executive director/editor of the Arizona Center for Investigative Reporting.
I wrote stories for the final project and for the blog, produced a video about a CBD researcher and took photos that accompanied these stories and were used for the design of the website.
